Vespeira

Portuguese painter and graphic artist (1925-2002), he belongs to the 3rd generation of the Portuguese modernist artists. Reference figure in the surrealist movement in Portugal, Vespeira constructed a long and diverse work. He emerged in the mid 40’s in the framework of Neo Realism, with his works reflecting an anti Salazar’s regime posture; he achieved a high point in his surrealist and intensely personal works executed between 1948 and 1952; he then went through abstract option to return, in the last decades to the themes and shapes that characterise his surrealist period.
