|
Portuguese architect, painter and thinker (1920). Graduated in architecture, he worked with Le Corbusier and Oscar Niemeyer. Nadir Afonso studied painting in Paris and he was one of the pioneers in the kinetic art, working alongside with Victor Vasarely, Fernand Léger, August Herbin and André Bloc. He is the author of an aesthetics theory, having published in several books where he defends that art is purely objective and ruled by mathematical laws, which treat art not as an act of imaginations, but of observation, perception and manipulation of shape. Nadir Afonso achieved international recognition and he is represented in several museums. His most famous artworks are the series Cidades, which suggest places all around the world. With 92 years of age, he still works actively in painting.
