Francisco Laranjo (Lamego, 1955) concluded the degree on Plastic Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto in 1978. He was awarded a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to post-graduate (1981/1983) and from the Junta Nacional de Investigação Científica in Portugal, the Netherlands and Egypt. He was also awarded a scholarship from the Goethe Institute in Dresden, Germany (2000).
Associate Professor and Director of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, he was lecturer or invited teacher in several universities and academies in cities like Bilbao, Otawa, Clagary, Daegu, Sheffield, Manchester, Istanbul, Alexandria, Sofia, Paris and São Paulo.

Exhibits individually since 1979 in Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Canada, India, China, South Korea, Brazil, among other countries.

He got a prize in the Contest Continuity of Anatomy and Geography in Art, conducted by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon, 1986. He was awarded the 1st prize in Painting by the Spanish Government for his participation in the Plastic Arts Exhibition embedded in the 1st International Congress on the Douro River, Teixeira Lopes House-Museum, Vila Nova de Gaia, 1986. Revelation Prize in the 1st National Exhibition of ARUS Modern Art, Soares dos Reis National Museum, Oporto and National Academy of Fine Arts, Lisbon, 1982/83. Prize Engeneer António Almeida, assigned by the Foundation under the same name, Oporto, 1978.

He is represented in museums and public collections like the JAP Modern Art Centre, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon, Institute of Contemporary Arts, Kunsan National University, Republic of Korea, Collection of the Ministry of Culture, Collection of the Ministry of Finances, Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso Museum, Amarante, Serralves Foundation’s Museum of Contemporary Art, Oporto, Tomar’s Municipal Museum, Centre for Contemporary Art, Donation José-Augusto França and Macau’s Cultural Centre, Popular Republic of China.

He is, since May 2013, exclusive artist of the Baganha Galeria.
